Background
After attending Mathew Humberstone Comprehensive School in Cleethorpes, in 1974 I gained a scholarship to Lincoln College, Oxford where I graduated with a First Class in Jurisprudence (several of my tutorials were joint with Somerville). I then gained a Bachelor of Civil Law.
Following graduation, I taught part-time for several years at the following Oxford Colleges: Christ Church, Lincoln and St Hughs, and at the Middlesex Polytechnic (now Middlesex University).
I gained scholarships so as to be able to study for bar and carry out my pupilage. I was called to the Bar in 1979 and took silk (Queens Counsel) in 1998.
I have always maintained various strands to my career and I set them out under separate headings on the left.
